Aletha Buck is someone who defines determination. Buck, along with members of the Shelby, Iowa, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 240 have reached a new echelon. Their concentrated efforts have brought in more than 7 million aluminum can tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Omaha.

Buck’s efforts started in early 2000. Under her leadership, the Shelby American Legion Auxiliary has taken on the project of collecting aluminum pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The pull tabs are recycled and the revenue benefits the Omaha charity. Ronald McDonald House Charities offers a “home away from home” for out-of-town families seeking medical treatment for their children in the Omaha area.

“We are astounded with Aletha’s newest accomplishment. She is a true embodiment of selfless giving and dedication,” said Kevin Warneke, executive director for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Omaha. The Shelby American Legion Auxiliary joins an exclusive club of only four other groups who have achieved this level of collection.
